To return a product for repair it MUST be clean. We don’t what your sticky icky tobacco tar or slobber all over the product. First empty the dugout of its contents as best as you can. If it has tobacco particulate (finely ground tobacco) in or on the dugout, simply wash the dugout in warm soapy water, rinsing out the particulate. Be sure to clean carefully around the lid area. Also try running water underneath the lid, by sliding it to its open position and flooding the area with water. The bat hole needs to be free of tar see below. Allow the dugout to dry and you are done.
Sometimes this will fix lid opening issues. See our faq on lid problems.
In the case of an aluminum pipe or tar, you must clean it completely. The best way to remove the tar is with denatured alcohol which can be purchased cheaply at a hardware store. PLEASE read the instructions and precautions on the bottle. Denatured alcohol is a hazardous chemical and should be used properly. We accept no responsibility for your use or misuse of the denatured alcohol. It will strip tar like you’ve never seen before! Once the pipe or dugout has been soaked in the alcohol, it may take a small amount of rubbing with a pipe cleaner to remove the stubborn tar.
